Orange Korner Arts (OKA) is a faith-based community arts program centered on providing high-quality arts education to youth and their families in North Philadelphia through the cultivation of a safe space to explore various artistic mediums and positively progress spiritually.
OKA develops relationships on three levels:
Youth (ages 10-18): Our Youth Art Courses offered in the fall and spring provide art training and mentor relationships for the youth in our community. Bear Fruit Club offers a weekly Bible Study, discipleship training program for youths.
- Adults: Monthly Adult Art Workshops provide art exposure and creative skill building for adults as well as provide some “time away” to do creative work together as neighbors. These art-based workshops focus on building resiliency in individuals before they get to the point of being addicted or struggling with behavioral disorders.
- OAKS of OKA: During the months of July and August, OKA offers a 6-week youth leadership development program called OAKS of OKA where 4-5 students are employed for 15-20 hours/week to lead the design, creation, and implementation of a community art project in the surrounding neighborhood. At the closing of the summer, OKA hosts an unveiling ceremony and celebration of the community art installation and invites the community to celebrate the efforts of the youth to transform their own neighborhood in north Philadelphia.
