Stephanie - Color Theory and Glazing

Teaching Artist Jim Hall introduced our Adult Artists to painting by discussing the elements of design, demonstrating line, value, and perspective as well as color mixing and glazing using watercolors.  We had a lovely time visiting and exploring watercolors together. Jim will come back in January to do a follow-up activity with participants to take them to the next level.  Thanks Jim!

When asked what better about the art program now that we have the new Art House, Shawn responded, “Because now we have a Chill Zone.”  Of course!  Whether or not they have their art class or even if they are even enrolled in the program, the youth in the neighborhood are recognizing the new art house as a place they can come after school to finish up their homework, play games, or just talk. Voted current favorite past-time:  a game of PICK-UP STICKS!

Ayuda’s Community Arts Program embarks on a journey with local youth ages 10-18 to create artwork using a variety of artistic mediums (visual, musical, and performance) that question issues of self-image and how culture uses image to shape definitions of gender, success, and power. reIMAGE developed in response to discoveries and conversations that took place during the 2008-09 theme RISE: Art in Action Against Violence. Guided by Ayuda’s art mentors, youth will explore through their courses how images absorbed from various forms of media can perpetuate acceptance of violent behavior as well as skew definitions of power and self-worth. Desiring to provide young people with artistic and cultural experiences and to improve their quality of life, Ayuda seeks to propel youth to reIMAGE their future, breaking the cycle of poverty found in Hunting Park and improving their quality of life and interpersonal relationships by using the power of transformative arts.
